Ferrari 458 Italia is a mixture of style, creative flair, passion and cutting edge technology, attributes for which Italy as a country is well known. For this reason the company opted for adding the name of Italy to the traditional figure representing the displacement and number of cylinders. The Italia is a completely new car from every point of view: engine, design, aerodynamics, handling, instrumentation and ergonomics, just to name a few.
The Ferrari 458 Italia continues to go from strength to strength and has gathered more than 30 global rewards in its short career. It also added 2 further plaudits to that collection at International Engine of the Year Awards when its V8 engine was voted Best Engine Above 4 Litres and Best Performance Engine. The success being enjoyed by Italia with both public and critics alike crosses all borders; it has won rewards in a host of different countries. Every Ferrari is a result of an uncompromising design approach which incorporates aerodynamic and styling requirements. The Pininfarina design features compact, aerodynamic lines, underscoring the concepts of performance oriented efficiency that inspired the project.
Performance and Powerplants:-
Powering the Ferrari 458 Italia is a V8 4.5 liter engine with maximum output of 562 HP and 398 lbs. ft. of torque. The engine is teamed up with dual clutch seven-speed automated manual transmission and accelerates from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in 3.4 seconds. The optional HELE system adds numerous technologies developed and designed to reduce fuel consumption and increase performance such as an engine start/stop system, a different air conditioning compressor, changes to electrical system and adaptive transmission and throttle response programming.
Interior:-
To free up space for distended transmission paddle shifters, the automaker did away with traditional steering column stalks. While it is one thing to change the wiper and light controls to buttons on steering column, it is quite another to reinvent the turn signal stalk as buttons on each spoke of the steering column. The navigation, stereo and other entertainment systems are controlled through buttons on knobs which flank both sides of steering wheel.
On the upside, its interior is slathered in beautifully soft leather, while the build quality and refinement are superior unlike its predecessors. The driving position is more comfortable than ever. So even if it can be a little frustrating to use, its interior at least provides the luxury one now expects from this rarefied class of sportscars.
Driving Impressions:-
The Ferrari 458 Italia’s V8 engine is a legend in the making with brutal acceleration bettered by only a scant few vehicles on the road. One of the important novelties on 458 Italia is the introduction of the seven-speed Formula One dual-clutch transmission that guarantees smoother yet faster changes. The technology is based on the independent management of even and odd gears which are pre-selected using two separate input shafts.
